The magazine recognizes the top 100 companies for Latinos.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis-based TruGreen has been named in LATINO magazine’s top 100 companies for Latinos. The recognition was announced with the release of the publication's Spring 2014 issue, which features its second annual list of companies providing the most opportunities for Latinos.
In selecting the 2014 LATINO 100, LATINO magazine evaluated corporations based on nominations submitted both formally and informally by Latino nonprofits and community organizations as well as readers, partners and stakeholders. LATINO magazine says the objective was to present a snapshot of corporate support for the Latino community in a variety of areas.
“I am delighted but not surprised TruGreen has been named as a Top 100 company in LATINO magazine,” said Mauricio Calvo, Executive Director of Latino Memphis. “TruGreen is a valuable partner for Latino Memphis and we appreciate their work in our community.”
In 2013, TruGreen launched a Healthy Green Space Initiative to work with Latino and African Americans leaders in identifying and helping to restore parks and green spaces which have fallen into disrepair. The company leads efforts to help build public-private partnerships which include local government, businesses, faith-based and community outreach groups who each have a role to play in “adopting” such areas and restoring them to a place children can play and the community can proudly gather. These partnerships also seek to advance understanding of the childhood obesity issue, the diseases which come from obesity, and the need for healthy diet and exercise.
"We are honored to be recognized by LATINO magazine for our commitment to restoring healthy green spaces in urban communities,” said David Alexander, President and CEO for TruGreen. "We know childhood obesity is a serious health issue and that healthy green spaces are critical to the fight. TruGreen is in the business of creating healthy green spaces so working with Latino and other community leaders on this issue is a natural for us.”
“TruGreen has demonstrated true leadership in the efforts to help reclaim and reengineer Southside Park to better benefit the community,” said Memphis Mayor A.C. Wharton. “Access to well-maintained green space is key in our overarching objective to get kids active and healthy. I want to thank TruGreen for their partnership in this and for their overall investments in our City.”
