Sycamore Springs Landscape nabs August 2010 Landscaper's Challenge semi-finalist spot

Sycamore Springs Landscape, of Reading, Penn., has been named as the August semi-finalist for the 2010 Landscaper’s Challenge, sponsored by New Holland Construction. The company turned a small residential area into a multi-level, all-season retreat complete with a waterfall and gazebo.

Synopsis: A residential yard in Pennsylvania was once small and difficult to access, with a narrow, steep golf cart path leading into another steeply-graded wooded area. But that was before Sycamore Springs got to it. To maximize space and make it feel as open as possible, the company designed outdoor living spaces at multiple elevations. By building a temporary access road, moving four triaxle loads of fill, one triaxle load of boulders, pavers and lumber, the yard was transformed into a work of art. The main deck occupies the highest elevation, and leads to a second level, where an elevated gazebo offers protection from the elements and a grand observation deck. The final level is a paver patio, complete with a waterfall and stream flowing into a small circular pond. In the end, the project was a great success, and praised as exceeding expectations by the company’s client.
