LOS ANGELES – Out with the old and in with the new. Leave the gloomy headlines and up and down business conditions behind, and grow forward with a positive outlook. That was the message that Bill Arman, landscape veteran and business consultant with The Harvest Group, shared in his keynote speech at the recent Landscape Industry Show.

More than 100 business owners and managers from all 17 chapters of the California Landscape Contractors Association were in attendance in Los Angeles Convention Center to listen, learn and engage in Arman’s “A Leaders Guide to Growing Forward in Today’s Challenging Times.”

Arman challenged leaders to radiate confidence and optimism, foster collaboration and cooperation, sharpen their skill sets and surround themselves with the right people. Through a series of exercises and self-evaluations, Arman enthusiastically helped attendees learn how to lead their organizations through 10 key actions and behaviors designed to position their organization for success.

Throughout the keynote, Arman engaged CLCA leaders and provided them with a specific action plan and ideas they could incorporate in their organization immediately to help them “grow forward.”

Participant reaction to the presentation showed that landscape professionals are ready to grow and make improvements to their businesses in 2011.

“I choose my attitude daily, and that’s to be positive,” said Rich Angelo, CLCA past state and chapter president.

Incoming State President Bob Wade echoed Angelo’s optimism by saying, “I refuse to participate in this recession.”
