AKRON, Ohio - Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens announces The Pattie Group of Novelty, Ohio as the landscaping firm hired to design and build PLAYGARDEN, opening in 2014. Stan Hywet is located at 714 North Portage Path in Akron, Ohio.
PLAYGARDEN is being built as a participatory multi-generational outdoor experience for families with children of all ages. Currently in the design phase, the 5,000 square foot garden will be located just north of the Corbin Conservatory, and will include elements that echo architectural features and interior spaces of the Manor House, Carriage House and the historic gardens on the estate. A water feature, discovery areas and interactive play areas to dig, climb, slither and crawl will be part of the space to allow for a variety of experiences.
"We are grateful that the Orr Foundation shared our vision and offered its support to create a special garden for some of our youngest guests and their families to enjoy," says Linda Conrad, president and executive director of Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens.
Located in Novelty, Ohio, The Pattie Group is a landscape firm providing full service design, development, and installation of extraordinary landscapes throughout Northeast Ohio for the past 45 years. "The Stan Hywet project has given us another unique opportunity to design a garden specifically for children's delight and family interaction" says Jonas G. Pattie, Executive Vice President of The Pattie Group. "The Stan Hywet leadership team's commitment to making this project truly special and reflective of the rich and storied history is inspiring. We are honored to collaborate with Stan Hywet to create a new garden experience for families to enjoy for generations to come. This important work magically melts the present with the past which is so meticulously preserved by Stan Hywet."
The Robert O. and Annamae Orr Family Foundation has provided the funds to build the PLAYGARDEN. It supports organizations and activities that advance the quality of life in Summit and Stark Counties through the arts, education, health/human services and community development.
Groundbreaking will occur this summer. The grand opening of PLAYGARDEN is slated for spring, 2014.
