TruGreen acquires Lawn Dawg

The company launched in 1997 and had 10 locations.

TruGreen has acquired Lawn Dawg, which 10 branches throughout Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Connecticut and New York. Amy Simpson, a TruGreen spokesperson, confirmed to Lawn & Landscape the acquisition.

"We are excited to announce that TruGreen recently completed the purchase of Northeast lawn care company Lawn Dawg," Simpson said. "We're delighted to be expanding our reach in the Northeast and look forward to a successful integration of the two companies."

All Lawn Dawg locations will be closed and integrated into the nearest TruGreen branch location, with some employees retained.

“The majority of Lawn Dawg associates were offered positions at TruGreen with the exception of Lawn Dawg corporate and call center associates, and a select number of field associates who did not pass TruGreen’s pre-hire screening requirements,” Simpson said, adding TruGreen offered immediate benefits and honor original hire dates so that associates can keep their tenure.

Jim Campanella, president, started the company in 1997 after his previous company, Barefoot Grass was acquired by TruGreen. Brighton Partners, a private equity firm based in Nashua, New Hampshire, acquired a 70 percent stake of Lawn Dawg in 2009, according to a 2009 Lawn & Landscape article.

Lawn Dawg had more than 100 employees and posted more than $14 million in 2016 revenue.

TruGreen posted $1.3 billion in 2016 revenue and is ranked second on Lawn & Landscapes Top 100 list.

TruGreen also recently acquired Turfmasters, a $5-million company in Hartford, Connecticut, according to Turfmasters' website.
