No-shows and withdrawals
Teams must attend the pre-event meeting on Wednesday, Oct.23, 2013 at 4 p.m., the afternoon prior to the Championship. At this meeting a random draw will be done to determine the preliminary round and construction area for each team. Teams are required to be at their designated construction area not less than 15 minutes prior to the start of the round they are competing in. Failure to report at these times or the pre-event meeting will constitute a withdrawal from the Championship.
Materials and tools
All materials to be used in the construction will be provided. Only materials provided by the event organizers and placed in the teams designated area may be used in the construction. Teams cannot supply their own materials.
Each team is expected to bring its own small hand tools and personal safety equipment. The following larger tools will be supplied for use during the Championship: Weber CR3 vibratory plate compactor, two iQ360 14-inch masonry saws with integrated dust collection, long handle round shovel and long handle lute rake.
Format over two days
During each round, a team will be given 60 minutes to complete their construction in the prescribed construction area, according to the design details of the 15 foot x 10 foot area provided at the beginning of the competition. Three teams will compete during each round. Each team will be judged on their installation technique and final product. The team with the highest score in each round will advance to the next level.
The preliminaries will have 12 teams competing in four rounds. Judging of the preliminaries will be based on technique, compliance with ICPI guidelines and delivering the specified design. Each team with the highest score from each round will automatically advance to the semi-finals. Additionally, the two teams with the highest scores from all the preliminary rounds, which did not automatically advance to the semi-finals, will advance to the semi-finals as wild-card selections.
The semi-finals will have six teams competing in two rounds. Judging of the semi-finals will be based on technique, compliance with ICPI guidelines and delivering the required elements.
