Three former Skinner sites in Manor (Austin), Lewisville and Houston were recently purchased by Shemin, The Landscape Supply Company, based in Danbury, Conn. This is Shemin’s first foray into the Texas market.
Dan Gapski first had the idea to create a custom dual dump trailer when he was operating a garden center and making regular deliveries. “We had a lot of customers who wanted just one yard of mulch or dirt so we’d send the truck out and it’d have to come back to refill for the next delivery,” recalls the now co-owner of Danco Products. “We were wasting so much time going back and forth that we were losing out on how many deliveries we could make in one day. And with all of the extra gas, we were losing profit.”
That’s when Gapski had an epiphany – a trailer that was large enough to haul multiple loads without having to struggle with plywood boards or other homemade contraptions to prevent load contamination.
His creation: Danco Products’ Dual Dumping Trailer. It converts from a single load to a divided bed and the split bed can dump one side at a time. There are also two removable dividers for carrying up to four different materials. And it doubles as a utility trailer. Danco offers two models: a 12-foot model with a GVWR of 12,000 lbs., and a 14-foot model with a GVWR of 14,000 lbs.
Gas will average $2.84 for this entire year and $2.96 in 2011, up from last year’s $2.35 per gallon, “primarily because of projected rising crude oil prices,” DOE said.
