| January 6, 2011

WILTON, Conn.  – The LaurelRock Co., a Wilton, Conn.-based landscape architecture design-build and maintenance firm received top honors at premier local and national competitions for two of its property transformations for residences in Fairfield and Putnam Counties.

Nationally, the firm received the Professional Landcare Network’s (PLANET) “Grand Award” for Environmental Improvement of a residential property. Locally, the firm received Connecticut Cottages and Gardens 2010 “Innovation in Design Award” (IDA) for Outstanding Landscape Design. LaurelRock’s president and co-founder, Burt DeMarche, who was also recognized as a PLANET Trailblazer at this year’s industry conference, accepted the honors at gala ceremonies recently held by the respective organizations.

“We are truly honored to share the stage with the most talented design professionals in Connecticut and the country,” said DeMarche, a horticulturalist, and son and business partner of landscape architect, Dickson DeMarche. “I give full credit to LaurelRock’s incredibly skilled design/build team, whose collective imagination and hard work continues to transform the most challenging of properties into environmental and aesthetically beautiful residential landscapes. I am especially honored to share LaurelRock’s successful design and environmental strategies with other firms nationwide through PLANET’s Trailblazer mentor program.”

PLANET Grand Award
At PLANET’s 41st Annual Environmental Improvement Awards Ceremony and industry conference in Louisville, Kentucky, October 28-30, 2010, LaurelRock took home a Grand Award, one of the industry’s top distinctions for environmental improvement of a residential property, for its transformation of a property in Garrison, New York (pictured above). The firm designed and built a spectacular retreat for a Manhattan family’s weekend country home, adding a swimming pool and spa, stone paths and a magical woodland garden to the contemporary home’s heavily wooded natural landscape and ledge outcroppings.  The picture below shows the property before the makeover.

2010 Innovation In Design Award
For the second consecutive year, Connecticut Cottages & Gardens magazine awarded LaurelRock its IDA Award for outstanding landscape design (pictured with the headline). The award, for a Weston, Conn. property, was announced at the magazine’s annual IDA Awards gala in May. The award-winning makeover, which was showcased in the magazine’s special July/August 2010 IDA issue, features a completely redesigned entranceway and landscape for a stately grand manor, including stunning outdoor living spaces abundant in plantings, and such first-class amenities as a pool and spa, patio, fire pit and barbecue.
