The company released a new wheel loader, introduced an excavator digging system and made improvements to its loader/backhoe product line.
First, the company introduced the new 621F wheel loader model at the World of Concrete 2012 show. The new machine provides up to a 10-percent increase in fuel economy over the previous model, while delivering faster acceleration, quicker cycle times and higher travel speeds.
The new Case 621F wheel loader, like other models in the product line, evolved from the company’s E Series machines. To meet Tier 4 Interim emissions standards, the Case F Series wheel loaders use selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology, which results in lower temperatures in the exhaust system while optimizing combustion.
The Case 621F wheel loader features a 6.7-liter Tier 4 Interim-certified engine that delivers up to 162 hp (121 kW). Classified as a 2.75 yd3 (2.1 m3) wheel loader, the Case 621F has an operating weight of 26,641 lb (12 084 kg).
A new dual-mode shutdown feature maximizes fuel economy and monitors vital engine components. Using the fuel-saver mode, the operator can limit the time the machine will idle. The desired shutdown time can be set in five-minute increments.
“The automatic engine shutdown feature can provide up to another 30 percent in fuel savings,” O’Brien said.
Second, the company announced the availability of Case Smart Digging Systems components, including new pin-on buckets, coupler buckets, the Case Multi-Fit Coupler and the SmartFit bucket teeth system. The new attachments and components expand the versatility and productivity of Case excavators.
Case pin-on buckets are designed for heavy-duty, high-capacity applications such as digging in dense soil, clay, loose rock and gravel. Available models include:
• Heavy-duty buckets with a rugged cutting edge and durable horizontal wear strip
• Severe-duty buckets featuring rugged T-1 or AR400 steel in all high-wear areas, along with double bottom and horizontal wear strips and thicker edges for improved durability and strength
• Heavy-duty, high-capacity buckets with 20-percent higher capacity than standard, plus the heavy-duty design features of the other buckets
• Ditching buckets with a formed back wrapper for enhanced loadability and production along with tapered sidewalls for easier dumping of sticky material.
The Case Multi-Fit Coupler offers complete hydraulic latching, enabling excavator operators to quickly attach and detach buckets and other components without leaving the cab. A patented mechanical blocking system eliminates manual safety pin insertion.
The universal design of the coupler enables Case excavators to connect a wide range of Case and other OEM buckets and attachments within the same size class. A hydraulic check valve and mechanical blocking bar help prevent the accidental release of an attachment.
Designed for the Multi-Fit Coupler, Case coupler buckets feature integrated bucket pins to prevent any loss of breakout force that might otherwise occur when using a coupler device. Available in a wide range of sizes, the coupler buckets work in either the backhoe or face positions for optimum versatility. Their design results in quicker, more complete fills.
Finally, a variety of improvements were made to the N Series loader/backhoe product line. The upgrades include the application of cooled exhaust gas recirculation (CEGR) emissions-control technology to achieve Tier 4 Interim certification, as well as important improvements in performance, productivity and maintainability.
The Case 580N, 580 Super N, 580 Super N Wide Track and 590 Super N loader/backhoes now feature 3.4-liter, turbocharged engines, ranging from 78 hp (58 kW) in the 580N to 108 hp (80 kW) in the 590SN. The Tier 4 Interim-certified engine – with CEGR technology-burns cleaner while delivering, faster response and up to 4-percent better fuel efficiency under load.
Other new standard N Series features include automatic Ride Control on four-wheel-drive models that engages at roading speeds to help reduce bucket spillage; and remote hydraulic test ports that allow easy, ground level access for service diagnosis to keep the machine up and running, reducing the expense associated with downtime.
Case also has added a standard panel of dipper teeth on the bottom surface of the dipper, along with an optional extension/replacement pack that can expand the area of the dipper covered with serrated teeth. The dipper teeth enable the machine operator to secure unusually shaped or oversized pieces of debris or rock by pinning those objects against the dipper with the bottom of the bucket. The dipper teeth not only provide superior control of materials being moved, but they also protect the dipper from excessive wear.
New optional features include a block heater for easy, convenient cold-weather starting, and a remote jump start with master disconnect switch to enhance security and convenience during jump starts.
