PELLA, Iowa — Tree care contractors and arborists looking for a compact, high-horsepower machine to remove stumps will appreciate the features of the Vermeer SC362 stump cutter.

The SC362 was developed with the tree care contractor in mind. Equipped with a 35-hp (26.1 kW) Vanguard gas engine and belt driven cutter head, the self-propelled SC362 provides ample power to remove medium-sized stumps. The unit also features a hydraulic drive system and front wheel steering for ease in maneuvering the stump cutter in and out of compact spaces. A two-speed ground drive system allows for fast transport between stumps and to and from the trailer and at only 50 inches (126.5 cm) wide, the SC362 stump cutter easily fits through a backyard gate.

With a 47-inch (119.4 cm) cutting width, the SC362 makes short work of stump removal projects. The optional AutoSweep system monitors engine speed and automatically adjusts the cutter wheel sweep rate to maximize productivity and reduce premature wear.

A 17-inch (43.2 cm) cutter wheel is equipped with the Vermeer exclusive Yellow Jacket cutter system. This innovative cutting system features universal and reversible carbide-tipped teeth, with two cutting edges on each tooth and more side pocket clearance, which limits pocket rubbing that can cause power loss and premature pocket wear. Maintenance is more efficient because the operator simply loosens one nut and rotates the tooth for an almost new cutting surface. With two cutting edges on each tooth, the tooth and pocket are designed so the second edge is protected and clear of the primary wear area while cutting with the first edge.

The user-friendly operator presence system minimizes operator fatigue and is designed to automatically stop the cutter wheel when the operator’s hands leave the cutter wheel control levers for more than one second. The cutter wheel can be re-engaged by actuating the cutter wheel drive switch. Easy-to-access service points aid in scheduled machine maintenance and inspections.

“Vermeer continues to design tree care equipment that will help enhance customer efficiency and have a positive impact on their bottom line,” says Andy Van Soelen, rental and tree care solutions specialist with Vermeer. “The SC362 offers a powerful package for tree care contractors and helps equip them to do more day in and day out.”
