Tara O’Meallain will receive $500 from the Wisconsin Green Industry Federation.

| June 11, 2013

Tara O’Meallain has been selected to receive the Wisconsin Green Industry Federation $500 Don Groth Green Industry Scholarship. O'Meallain is a horticulture student at the Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC).

O'Meallain's love for plants and trees began during her childhood road trips away from their home in New Mexico. Growing up around desert, mountains and cactus, she was amazed by the green she saw in the places her family traveled to. Eventually she embraced the green, after staying home with her four daughters and then embarking on a nursing career. She considered horticulture for a couple of years after seeing the MATC website.

“I finally made the switch and have never been happier,” she said. O'Meallain is interning at Westmoor Country Club as the grounds manager and loves it. She enjoys the people she works with and the people at MATC, and is very grateful to the Wisconsin Green Industry Federation for the scholarship. Congratulations, Tara!
