DALLAS – Classes focused on landscape architecture will be the focus of the nine dynamic and diverse seminars presented by the Genesis 3 at the 2011 Int’l Pool | Spa | Patio Expo, Nov. 2-4, in the Bayside Halls at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas.

Two of the nine seminars will be presented by longtime Genesis 3 Faculty Members Eric Groft, principal, Oehme, van Sweden & Associates, and Anthony Archer-Wills, director, Anthony Archer-Wills.

Eric Groft will present “Project Profiles – Integrating Water Elements into the Landscape Environment,” on Wednesday, Nov. 2, offering attendees 1.5 technical credit hours.

The seminar will cover creating a pleasing pallet of colors that are in concert with both the softscape and hardscape, understanding the importance of visual and audible use of water as a medium, how to maximize the benefits of the partnership between designer and contractor, as well as gain insight into the relevant scale and proportion of water within the landscaped environment.

“Landscape architecture brings added value to all components of designing with water,” said Groft. “Upon the conclusion of this class, participants will understand the importance of the master planning process to assure every component of garden design is in the right place through the construction documentation and detailing of the waterfall, lily pool, negative edge pool or simple lap pool.”

Groft is a registered landscape architect and a member of the American Society of Landscape Architects.  Joining Oehme, van Sweden & Associates in 1986, with a master’s in landscape architecture from the University of Virginia, Groft was the first associate to join the firm, founded in 1977 by Wolfgang Oehme and James van Sweden. Groft also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in geography and environmental science from Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania.

Anthony Archer-Wills will present “An Inspirational Master Class on Designing and Building Naturalistic Water Features,” on Friday, Nov. 4, offering attendees 3 technical credit hours.

By using ornamental fish, swimming, boating, reflections, sound, movement or aquatic plants as examples, the class will commence with the design principals to consider when planning a pond, stream or waterfall. It will examine its place in the landscape, the reasons for its inclusion, and how these features can be combined.

“The water garden is an oasis for tranquility and recuperation; a place of light, sound and movement, full of life and color,” said Archer-Wills. “By taking this class, attendees will learn that a well-executed design will enhance the garden, be low in maintenance and raise ones quality of life."

Archer-Wills is one of the world’s foremost authorities on water gardening, responsible for developing many of the new techniques used in the construction of ponds with both concrete and flexible liners.  He started his own aquatic nursery and pond construction business in the mid-1960s, and was subsequently invited by the Agricultural Training Board and British Association of Landscape Industries to train companies working in landscape design and construction.  Archer-Wills wrote the leading books on the subject – “The Water Gardener” and “Designing Water Gardens” – and has lectured extensively worldwide.

Others classes presented by Genesis 3 in the Expo’s core educational program include, “How to Find and Work with a Good Landscape Architect or a Good Pool Contractor,” “The Four Elements of Design in the Pool Industry – An Overview,” “How the History of Water Affects Modern Pool Design,” “Renovation and Remodeling of Existing Pools and Spas – Part A:  Options and Design,” “The Beauty of Glass Tile and Waterproofing Applications,” “Renovation and Remodeling of Existing Pools and Spas – Part B:  Engineering and Construction,” and “Beauty of the Edge – The Definitive, Internationally Acclaimed Vanishing Edge and Water in Transit Design.”

In addition, the Genesis 3 Design Schools will feature a selection of four 20-hour accredited courses Oct. 30- Nov. 1.

All educational seminars are ticketed events and require registration.  For more information, visit www.PoolSpaPatio.com/attendee or call 972.536.6350 or 888.869.8522.
