A new kit enhances the ESP-Modular Controllers.

| November 23, 2011

Winter is fast approaching, and it’s an ideal time for contractors to consider new ways to increase revenues while still helping their clients save water. Now, Rain Bird is giving contractors the perfect opportunity to upgrade their customers with ESP-Modular Controllers to weather-based smart control with the ESP-SMT Upgrade Kit.

The ESP-SMT Smart Control System uses weather-based technology along with factors such as soil type, slope, plant type and sun exposure to calculate a precise watering schedule for each zone within a residential or light commercial landscape. According to Adolfo Meza, Rain Bird’s product manager for contractor controllers, the ESP-SMT Upgrade Kit makes it simple for contractors to offer their ESP-Modular customers all of the advantages that come with smart control.

“The ESP-Modular Controller and the ESP-SMT Smart Control System have identical dimensions and wiring,” Meza says. “Contractors simply need to replace the ESP-Modular’s front panel with the ESP-SMT panel from the Upgrade Kit, make the necessary connections and then enter data using the on-screen set-up wizard and install on-site weather sensor. It’s that easy. After that, the controller will take over, applying just the right amount of water throughout the landscape.”

Installing the smart controller also opens the door to additional water-saving irrigation system retrofit opportunities, such as rotary nozzles, drip irrigation and rotors with integrated pressure regulation. “Customers who are open to the idea of water-efficient irrigation control are more likely to also embrace these other technologies,” Meza added. “If you’re going to use a smart controller, it just makes sense that your entire system should also use water as wisely as possible.”

Contractors can download a free Homeowner Marketing Kit complete with customizable sell sheet, postcard and bill stuffer to use in their sales efforts. Plus, for a limited time, contractors who are members of Rain Bird’s Rewards Program can also earn Double Rewards Points on every ESP-SMT Upgrade Kit that they purchase between now and Jan. 15, 2012.

“All that contractors need to do is download our promotional coupon, complete the requested information and send it in along with all qualifying invoices by Jan.15, 2012,” Meza said. “By earning Double Rewards Points, they’ll be able to quickly qualify for all kinds of reward items, like trips, crew t-shirts, caps, tools and marketing materials for their businesses.”
