Evaluation teams are preparing for the initial round of contactor audits.

In a recent issue of Snow Magazine, the Accredited Snow Contractors Association (ASCA) announced the snow industry certification program that would be available to contractors  through an ISO auditing process. 

I'm happy to report that the ASCA has made significant progress with the certification program. 

  • The program has been approved by the ANSI-ASQ National Accreditation Board (ANAB).  
  • It is an ISO 9001 certification and will be titled SN9001.


Frankly, this is an exciting achievement for ASCA and a great opportunity for the professional snow and ice management industry.

SN9001 is a quality management system that focuses on process and procedures. It supports and reinforces the ASCA's efforts to establish industry standards that reduce risk in a participating contractor's snow operations. 

A quality management system ensures contractors have the processes and procedures in place to deliver the services contracted to provide to customers.  It also ensures you have the proper risk management practices in place intended to protect your company from baseless law suits, particularly slip-and-fall. 

At this time, ANAB is preparing evaluation teams you can contact who will conduct these audits.  The audit costs and duration are based on the number of full-time snow employees that work for your company.  The audits average $1,200 per day.  Most snow and ice management companies can expect an audit to last a few days in the initial year.

SN9001 with debut at the ASCA Executive Summit, scheduled for August 9-11 in Fort Lauderdale.  John Knappenberger, president of ANAB will outline the program and explain the value of an ISO audit.
