Gene Barnes developed a program to solve problems and it’s made potential customers take notice.

Houston is a big market for irrigation and standing out from the crowd isn’t always easy. But Gene Barnes, owner/founder of Gallion Irrigation, Inc., has found a way to differentiate himself. After years of research, he found a way to keep plants and grass at their healthiest through a biological water conservation and soil restoration program called MicrobeMagic that creates Instant Deep Root Watering.

“This program definitely makes us stand out from the competition,” says Barnes. “Anytime you offer something your competitors don’t, it’s an advantage. But that’s not why I started this. I did it because I was interested in finding a way to stop having so many problems on the job with dead plants due to overwatering.”
While many now view him as a water conservationist, Barnes says that also was not his goal. “I just wanted to be able to keep crops healthy – keep my clients’ grass green and healthy,” he says. “I had to find a way to get water into the soil in a more efficient manner and for them to stop dying from the lack of oxygen. I did it for the health of the plants.”

Gallion also has 15 years of experience in mosquito control. The combination of these different service offerings certainly sets the company apart from the rest. Barnes says that in a crowded marketplace, a diverse set of offerings can be incredibly beneficial. “The more you can help out your clients, the better,” he says. “Clients appreciate a company that can offer expertise in a number of areas
