Louis J. Wierichs Jr., founder of Pro X Lawn Care in Wisconsin and former president of the Professional Lawn Care Association of America (PLCCA), died last month. Wierichs started his company in 1997 and became PLCCA (now the National Association of Professional Landscapers) president in 1994.

Industry colleague and friend, Bob Andrews of the Greenskeeper in Indiana, said Wierichs was always active in industry affairs, both at the local and national level.

“Lou believed in the good that comes out of associating with others in your industry and he was always ready to volunteer his time and expertise to an organization that could help him be a better business owner, and also help smaller lawn care operators become more professional,” Andrews said.

Andrews said he, Wierichs and other members of the PLCCA Alumni Club met every January for 27 consecutive years.

“Lou was also about the most social person I have ever met,” Andrews said. “The man lived every second of his life to the fullest and that enthusiasm was contagious for those of us who served with him on the PLCAA board of directors during that period of change and merger.”
