Lawn care provider TruGreen ChemLawn is now simply TruGreen. The company recently announced that it is dropping the second half of its name.
Originally, TruGreen and ChemLawn merged in 1992 when ChemLawn was purchased by ServiceMaster (which had purchased TruGreen in 1990). Both names were kept as ChemLawn was a well known name in the industry and the company wanted to retain that customer recognition.
TruGreen is now the name most people recognize as the company's brand, according to a statement on the company's Web site. The statement adds that enough time has passed that it can drop ChemLawn from its name without losing brand recognition.
