Kathleen Wolf, at the Center for Urban Horticulture, University of Washington, received the first research grant from the Associated Landscape Contractors of America. The grant will benefit Wolf’s work on the economic benefits valuation of landscaping in small business areas.

"No Limits, No Boundaries - Information to Help Your Business Grow," is the theme for the Professional Lawn Care Association of America’s 1997 conference to take place Nov. 15-18 in Charlotte, N.C. PLCAA’s conference, along with the Green Industry Expo, will run on a Saturday through Tuesday schedule this year.
PLCAA also kicked off its spring public awareness campaign on the benefits of turf and professional lawn care safety practices. A press kit has been put together for members to distribute to their local media, community groups and customers. For information, call 800/458-3466.
The Indiana State Lawn Care Association and five golf course superintendents associations in the state gave more than $36,500 to the Purdue Turf Program at the state’s recent Midwest Turf Expo.
The Ohio Turfgrass Foundation donated $572,480 to The Ohio State University, including grants for seven turfgrass researchers, at O.S.U. and the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center.
The 1997 officers for the New York State Turfgrass Association include: Stephen Smith, president; Anthony Peca, vice president; John Fik, secretary/treasurer. Jim Seaman and Ken DeCerce filled vacancies on the board of directors.
John Gillan, director of the Professional Grounds Management Society, was named chairperson of the American Horticultural Therapy Association Advisory Council for 1997 and 1998.
The National Concrete Masonry Association created new membership categories for producers and contractors of segmental retaining walls. SRW producer membership is open to companies making segmental retaining wall units but not producing standard concrete masonry units. SRW contractor membership is open to companies doing business as installers of segmental retaining wall systems. For information, call 703/713-1900.
The Irrigation Association invited the Irrigation Association of Australia to appoint a member of its certification review committee to serve as the first international member of the IA certification board. The IA and the IAA have been working to establish a certification program for Australia modeled after the IA program.
Tim Wilson, the IA’s director of education is planning another series of one-day seminars for various locations in Texas this summer. The sessions will allow contractors to meet continuing education unit requirements before the Aug. 31 deadlines. For information, call 703/573-3551.
