HomeAdvisor recently released its first annual look at skilled home service trades in America.
In terms of landscaping:
- Landscaping is a job with high levels of satisfaction, with only about 9% of pros claiming dissatisfaction with their jobs.
- Women make up less than 20% of the landscaping/masonry/driveway workforce.
Additionally, landscaping is the most planned exterior project for 2021. Landscaping holds the top spot because it can simultaneously make a big impact on the visual aesthetic of a home and its curb appeal, while also improving the lifestyle needs of a home in terms of either outdoor entertaining, health and wellness or gardening. In 2020, consumers listed "making their homes better suit their lifestyle needs" as the top reason for improving their home, so it’s not surprising to see landscaping take the top spot of most planned project. It can play such a multifaceted role in improving a homeowner's lifestyle across a range of household preferences.
A breakdown of planned exterior projects included the following:
| Top Projects Planned | Percent Planning |
| Landscaping | 17.4% |
| Exterior Paint | 17.2% |
| Deck Porch | 13.8% |
| Windows | 11.5% |
| Fencing | 11.2% |
| New Roof | 9.6% |
| Pool Above Ground | 6.0% |
| Pool In Ground | 5.3% |
| Siding | 4.5% |
