Andy Ferguson, The Davey Tree Expert Co., and past president of Colorado Association of Lawn Care Professionals, was recognized as the Professional of the Year by the 57th annual Rocky Mountain Regional Turfgrass Association at their Conference and Trade Show in December. He was also the recipient of CALCP’s Golden Gun Award at its spring conference in 2010.
The Professional of the Year Award is given annually during the trade show to the outstanding professional in the lawn care industry selected by a nomination process by the RMRTA board. The Golden Gun award is given to a CALCP member for outstanding service or long-term support to CALCP. The recipient is selected each year by the president and board.
Ferguson has been in the turfgrass industry since 1998, working his way from technician to district manager at Davey. He served two terms as president of CALCP and has been on the board of directors since 2002.
He has been a delegate to PLANET’s Day-on-the-Hill in Washington, and co-chaired CALCP’s second Day of Service at Riverside Cemetery.
Ferguson served on the Colorado Turfgrass Foundation as a board member and on the GreenCO Legislative committee for four years, serving as chairperson in 2010. He also sits on the Colorado Department of Agriculture Groundwater Protection Advisory Committee. As a CALCP board member, he often has appeared on the John Cretti radio show to answer questions from the public about appropriate lawn care.
“His positive attitude and great sense of humor are forever present, and he encourages the CALCP board to look ahead and ‘go for the gold,’” said Dave Cromley, board member of the Rocky Mountain Regional Turfgrass Association and Colorado Turfgrass Foundation.
