Pickleball paradise: Transforming outdoor spaces with pools and sports hardscaping

This transformation of a once-ordinary backyard into a vibrant and multi-functional entertainment hub is now a favorite of Green Scene Landscaping and Swimming Pools, based in Chatsworth, California.

The clients were seeking a space that blends outdoor cooking, recreation and relaxation, creating a one-of-a-kind backyard retreat. Their vision was an outdoor kitchen, BBQ counters, patio covers, swim-up bars and a pickleball court. However, having never played the sport, the company encouraged them to take some classes first to ensure they truly enjoyed it. Once they confirmed their passion for the game, Green Scene set to work, transforming their hillside into a dynamic, multi-sensory environment.

The project began with the ambitious challenge of carving the rear hillside to create space for a stunning vanishing-edge pool. This pool rises to meet the home, providing a seamless connection between the indoor and outdoor areas. The tranquil fire pit and inviting swim-up bars enhance the atmosphere, offering the perfect setting for both relaxation and entertainment. The pickleball court, strategically placed to maximize the use of space, creates an exciting focal point and adds an element of fun and competition to the environment.

A resort-like ambiance was the goal through the Queen Palm trees that fill the planters, adding height and life without obstructing the breathtaking city views. The carefully selected plants and trees create a tropical oasis, while the modern design of the pool, court and lounge areas enhances the luxurious feel of the space.

The journey to completing this project was not without its challenges. The company navigated difficult hillside terrain and worked closely with the client to ensure that every detail met their expectations. After months of planning and construction, the result is a backyard is a space that invites family and friends to gather, enjoy a game of pickleball, sip cocktails at the swim-up bar and unwind by the fire pit.
