It’s probably the one question presented most often to Lawn & Landscape staff members: Who are the biggest companies in the industry?
Well, let that question be asked no more. Lawn & Landscape is proud to present the inaugural L&L Top 50, a comprehensive listing of the 50 largest companies in the green industry, based on 1996 year-end revenues.
A few notes about this list:
- Companies were surveyed in August and September 1997, and asked to provide their 1996 revenues, the growth this represented over 1995 and the projected growth for 1997.
- Companies’ revenue figures include all divisions, branches, etc., and other green industry-related profit centers they own. For example, TruGreen-ChemLawn’s figure of $680 million does not include revenues from its 1996 acquisition of Barefoot Grass.
- The L&L Top 50 earned a total of $2,066,067,100 for an average of $41,321,342 in revenues for 1996. These companies expect to earn $2,303,664,817 in 1997 for an average of $46,073,296. The median 1996 revenue value was $10,500,000.
- Just three companies noted a drop off in revenues from 1995 to 1996, while one expects a revenue decrease for 1996 to 1997.
- The average growth for these companies from 1995 to 1996 was 6.1 percent; growth from 1996 to 1997 is anticipated to be about 11.5 percent.
- The L&L Top 50 reside in 22 states, with Illinois leading the way with six companies.
