A ban on gas-powered leaf blowers in Lexington is officially underway, fulfilling a 2021 Special Town Meeting vote to prohibit the lawn care equipment for both residents and commercial landscaping companies.

The local bylaw carries fines of up to $200 for violations.

“Any person who violates any provision of this by-law, or who is the owner of property on which such violation occurs, shall be fined an amount not to exceed $50 per first violation, $100 for the second violation, and $200 for the third and each subsequent violation,” the bylaw reads. “The imposition of a penalty for any violation shall not excuse the violation or permit it to continue. Each day that such violation continues shall be considered a separate offense.”
