Established in 1916, the Forest Preserve District of Cook County is comprised of more than 69,000 acres and requires a comprehensive landscape maintenance program. The need for reliable, cost-efficient equipment prompted the Forest Preserve maintenance supervisor to seek a new solution. Ultimately, he and the landscape maintenance department made the decision to transition to propane. Over the past eight years, conventionally fueled equipment has been replaced with propane-powered mowers helping the Forest Preserve to fulfill its mission “to maintain a clean and welcoming environment at our recreational outdoor areas, facilities and structures throughout the Forest Preserve District.”
