The Professional Landcare Network’s (PLANET) board of directors has identified five industry issues the organization plans to discuss strategically as an ongoing initiative of its new governance. The initiative, called Team PLANET, aims to incorporate the wants and needs of its contractor and supplier members.

PLANET President Jason Cupp introduced the topics during the association’s Summer Leadership symposium June 18 to 22 in Stowe, Vt. “By having ongoing strategic discussions on specific issues we’re trying to be proactive rather than reactive regarding what our membership wants and needs,” Cupp said. “We plan to discuss the impacts these five issues have on the industry and find ways to integrate and work through them to try to curb some of the industry’s concern.”
The five initiatives are as follows:
1. The Digital Age - What new technology should PLANET and the industry as a whole embrace? What role does technology - from GPS to PDAs to computer software - play in industry today?
2. Pesticides - What is the industry’s role and how can PLANET help voices get heard?
3. Membership - How can PLANET continue to attract new members and communicate the value of their membership?
4. H-2B and Labor - From Hispanic laborers to high-level management to students, how can we find and retain qualified employees?
5. Energy and Fuel - What is the impact of energy and fuel costs on the industry?
“Team PLANET includes its members, who are just as much a part of the team as the board and the leadership,” Cupp said. “We want to listen to what they are saying in hopes of providing value to them.”
