BRILLION, Wis. - About 40,000 Ariens, Scotts and Husqvarna brand lawnmowers are being recalled due to fears the propeller can detach and injure users. The Brillion-based manufacturer, Ariens Co., has received four reports of a broken piece shooting from under mowers, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) said.
The rotary mowers under recall include walk-behind, 21-inch gas-powered models. Ariens mowers under recall have an orange body with black handlebars, while Scotts and Husqvarna models are orange with gray handlebars.
The mowers were sold across the United States between December 1999 and October 2000 for $360 to $800. Consumers were told to stop using the mowers and return them to an authorized dealer for free repair. The CPSC lists the following model and serial numbers included in the recall:

"Consumers should stop using these recalled mowers immediately and return them to an authorized dealer for free repair,'' according to officials at the CPSC.
