50,000 Bees Swarm Southwest Florida Landscaping Crew

A Southwest Florida landscaping service was trimming some tree branches when they ran into an angry insect; actually tens of thousands of them.

The crew accidentally stumbled on a 50,000 bees that had made their home in a couch that had been thrown on the side of the road.

The men trimmed a branch that landed on the couch and the bees swarmed. Since they can fly at 30 miles per hour, there was no escape and one of the men was attacked.

"He got stung in the face a couple of times. He swelled up where he couldn't see out of his eye." says John Belcastro, the victim's brother.

Keith Councell was called out to remove the colony, which he called one of the biggest he's ever seen.

He used a combination of smoke to calm the bees and begin to move them away. He says once he removes the queen, the rest of the bees will follow and they'll get a new home.

Councell says bees are getting to be a huge problem in Southwest Florida because people are dumping trash like couches and old tires on the side of the road and the bees make their home in them.
