“I’ve always believed that it’s up to us to take action if we want to ensure a bright future for the environment, so any opportunity to openly discuss today’s most pressing environmental issues, such as water use, is a crucial step in helping preserve our precious natural resources,” Begley says. “I’m excited to be a speaker at this year’s WaterSmart Symposium. It is a great forum for discussing the concerns surrounding water as well as possible solutions on how we can reduce waste by using water more efficiently.”

Known for arriving at Hollywood events on a bicycle, Begley has served as chairman of the Environmental Media Association and the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy. His work has earned him awards from numerous environmental groups including the California League of Conservation Voters, the Natural Resources Defense Council, Heal the Bay and many others.

Held in July during Smart Irrigation Month, the 2007 WaterSmart Symposium will cover timely issues related to water management and the irrigation industry. Landscape contractors, golf course superintendents, architects, specifiers, homebuilders, government officials and others with a stake in water management and the future of irrigation are encouraged to attend. Registration for the event can be completed online at www.torowatersmart.com.

“We are looking forward to having one of Hollywood’s environmental leaders speak about the importance of efficient water use at the WaterSmart Symposium this year,” says Phil Burkart, vice president and general manager of Toro Irrigation.

“Ed Begley’s long list of environmental efforts and achievements will certainly add depth and perspective to this year’s event. With the participation of key players and advocates like Begley, we can lead the way in overcoming challenges and implementing practical water management solutions,” Burkart says.

Begley made his first appearance in his portrayal of Dr. Victor Ehrlich on the long-running television series St. Elsewhere, for which he received six Emmy nominations. Since then he has also appeared in feature films (A Mighty Wind, For Your Consideration, The Inlaws and Batman Forever), television shows (Six Feet Under, Arrested Development, The West Wing and Veronica Mars) and theater projects (Cryptogram and Romance).
