ALCA Announces Interior and Exterior Landscape Education Days

The Associated Landscape Contractors of America is holding two educational sessions for exterior and interior landscape contractors later this year.

HERNDON, Va. - The Associated Landscape Contractors of America (ALCA) has announced the locations for two educational sessions for exterior and interior landscape contractors. This year’s Specialty Education - "Essentials of Success" educational tracks will be presented simultaneously Sept. 26, 2001 in Baltimore, Md., and Oct. 6, 2001 in Chicago, Ill.

ALCA’s Business Boot Camp is geared to the exterior and/or interior landscape contractor and will include the basics of operating a successful landscape company. Small business owners, supervisors and managers of larger companies can receive advice and tips of the trade on basic business knowledge, including market analysis and market penetration, developing a management team, operations, managing growth and financials.

David Minor, who is currently director of the James A. Ryffel Center for Entrepreneurial Studies at Texas Christian University, will lead the Business Boot Camp. Minor was also the founder and president of Minor’s Landscape Services, a former Inc. 500 award-winning company. He is also a past president of ALCA.

Tech Knowledge is designed for interior landscape technicians and supervisors to provide plantscape technician training. The seminar will provide basics of indoor plant care, aesthetic and design skills, technical horticultural skills, troubleshooting pest and disease problems and tips on quality customer service.

Virginia Powers, a 20-year veteran of the interior landscape industry, is the leader of the Tech Knowledge session. She is the editor and owner of Tropical Plant Technician, an interior training publication, and Garden Tapestry, an interiorscape company.

A combined opening general session by Minor, titled "The Top Ten Ways to be Successful in the Landscape Business," will include information for both interior and exterior landscape professionals.
