PASADENA, Calif. - American Soil Technologies Inc. (ASTI) announced Aug. 14 that its Agriblend Division has developed a process to load its existing soil amendment blend with plant nutrients.

Primarily developed for the turf market, ASTI said the new blend reduces the need for water while supplying the required nutrients for healthy growth. The new blend will be known as nutrimoist™, which keeps water and nutrients near the root zone.

Installations using a Seeda-Vator, which forces the product into the root zone, have been made on three golf courses in Tucson, Ariz., and Chula Vista and Bakersfield, Calif. A marked improvement in turf quality was noted in all three installations, according to ASTI. Additionally, in La Mesa, Calif., Hanson Aggregates installed nutrimoist in a sports park.

Ralph Reagan, general manager of Hanson's A-1 Soils, said, "Within three weeks of the application I am unable to find rust spores anywhere on the field. The turf has gone from an unhealthy looking brown and golden color to a rich emerald green. This was the most dramatic change I have ever seen in turf grass."

Sean Lee, executive vice president of sales and marketing for ASTI’s, Agriblend Division, said, "We now have a product that can be used in golf, municipalities, commercial and home lawn, which opens a very exciting market for us. We expect to staff up within the next three weeks after final selection of the installation equipment is completed."

In addition to its Agriblend Division, which develops technology that decreases the need for water in agriculture and other plant growing environments, ASTI operates a Soil Wash Technologies division, which focuses on technology that removes hydrocarbon contaminants from soil.
