ANLA Awards Members and Elects New President

The association presents its Allied Association and Hall of Fame awards and announces its 2003-2004 president.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The American Nursery & Landscape Association (ANLA) gave out some awards recently at its annual Convention and Learning retreat on July 19 in Boston.

The association awarded Robert Couch, nursery sales manager, Dayton Bag & Burlap, Dayton, Ohio, its Allied Associate award, which was created to recognize individuals, groups or organizations within the supplier sector of the green industry for their growth contributions.

Alfred Hicks, president, Hicks Nurseries, Westbury, N.Y., received the 2003 ANLA Hall of Fame award, which is given to an outstanding nursery and landscape industry professional whose business and community accomplishments serve as an example for others in the industry.

Donald Joseph Eakes, professor of horticulture, Auburn University, Auburn, Ala., was awarded the L.C. Chadwick Educator’s Award, recognizing outstanding landscape horticulture instructors, while Gary Eggenberger, sales and shipping manager, Sherman Nursery Co., Charles City, Iowa, was named Wholesale Plant Sales Professional of the Year.

Dwight Hughes, Jr., owner of Dwight Hughes Nursery, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, was elected Region III/Midwest Region director of the ANLA Board of Directors, replacing Dale Bachman, president of Bachman’s, Minneapolis, Minn., who was elected 2003-2004 association president.

And the newly elected vice president is Peter Orum, owner, Midwest Groundcovers, St. Charles, Ill., as vice president.
