Aquascape Founder Invited to Appear CNBC Television Broadcast

Greg Wittstock was invited to appear on the Sept. 12 airing of CNBC’s “The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch” to talk about the supplier's headquarters, Aqualand.

Greg Wittstock, Founder and CEO of Aquascape, was invited to appear on the Sept. 12 airing of CNBC’s “The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch.”  Wittstock was interviewed by Deutsch during the feature, “Your Roadmap to the American Dream.” The interview showcased Wittstock’s big idea for creating a workplace utopia – the company headquarters known as ‘Aqualand.’

Deutsch applauded Wittstock for creating a better way to do business, while video clips of Aquascape employees ran in the background highlighting the amenities of Aqualand.  Aqualand not only sports the largest sloping green roof in North America, but contains a fitness center, spa area, indoor soccer court, basketball court, batting cage, and napping rooms.  Wittstock explained that his water gardening company is about creating enriched lifestyles for people, and that he wanted to create a unique working lifestyle for his employees as well.  “If work isn’t fun, then I don’t want to work,” said Wittstock.

When asked how employees managed to get any work done, Wittstock explained that Aquascape staffers are self-regulated.  His philosophy promotes that if work is fun, employees will work harder, they’ll form better relationships with one another, and a stronger team will be created.  Stronger teams lead to greater profits, as evidenced by the rapid growth of Aquascape, Inc.  Aquascape appeared on the Inc. 500 list of fastest growing privately-held companies in North America 4 years in a row (1999-2002).

Wittstock shared that he best learned how to create strong teams through his experience on the football field.  He knew there was a better way to run a business, and so created the workplace utopia known as Aqualand.  “Our motto at Aquascape is ‘Those who sweat together stick together,’” commented Wittstock.  Employees nominated Wittstock for FORTUNE Small Business Magazine and Winning Workplaces Best Bosses award, which he won in 2005.
