Arysta LifeScience North America Corp., announced it has recently received federal EPA approval of an expanded label for Arena Insecticide and also received federal registration for Disarm fungicide on turfgrass.
ARENA. The exanded label for Arena reflects application timing rates for control of white grubs and other major pests in professional lawn and landscape residential and commercial turfgrass management. Certain state registrations may be pending.

“This new label approval reflects the unique preventive and curative grub control activity that clothianidin, the active ingredient in Arena, has demonstrated in widespread field research,” said Tom Kroll, product manager, insecticides for Arysta LifeScience. “Possessing both preventive and curative activity allows Arena maximum flexibility, expanding the grub control treatment window from early May to early September.”
In 2005, Arena showed success in extensive trials among 20 leading university turfgrass researchers and major turf management businesses across the U.S. to provide effective control of white grubs, chinch bugs, sod webworms and other pests.
Arysta LifeScience says the new label effectively triples the grub control application window. “The new Arena label will change the way we think about grub control,” said Doug Houseworth, research and development manager for Arysta. “Arena can now be applied in any of three application options: Early preventive applications in May for early-season pests will also prevent white grubs from being a problem later; standard preventive grub treatments can be applied mid-June to mid-July; and the curative activity of Arena Insecticide enables it to be used effectively in rescue treatments from late July to early September.”
DISARM. On the fungicide side of the business, Arysta has received federal registration of fluoxastrobin, a strobilurin fungicide providing control of plant diseases on turfgrass. Fluoxastrobin will be marketed as Disarm Fungicide for use in the golf course, lawn care, sports turf and sod production markets.

Arysta received exclusive global marketing rights to fluoxastrobin in turf and ornamental markets last year, and anticipates a full U.S. launch pending state registrations. The company is currently evaluating a number of fluoxastrobin-based pre-mixes following the introduction of the solo product.
“As a member of the strobilurin class of chemistry, Disarm offers systemic and protectant properties to provide strong activity on turfgrass patch and blight diseases,” said Kroll. “This means two methods of protection and a broad spectrum of control of devastating diseases.”
In 2005, Arysta LifeScience collaborated with universities across the U.S. to accurately define the disease control spectrum and performance benefits of fluoxastrobin. “Trial results indicate fluoxastrobin, alone or in combination, provides excellent control of brown patch, summer patch, snow mold, target spot and southern blight,” Houseworth adds. In 2006, Disarm research trials will be conducted on control of anthracnose, gray leaf spot and other major turf diseases.
“Federal registration of Disarmexpands our commitment to provide superintendents and lawn care professionals effective turfgrass-protection solutions that help them maintain successful agronomic and business operations,” said Tom Justmann, commercial vice-president, specialty, Arysta LifeScience.
