The American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) announced new executive elections for the organization.
ASLA selected Patrick Miller as president-elect for 2004. He will assume his post at the group’s annual meeting in the fall of 2004. Miller’s experience ranges from work in public, private and academic practice, including his 14-year tenure as landscape architecture department head at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. For ASLA, Miller served six years on the board of trustees, two years as vice president of education and chaired or participated in several chapter and national ASLA committees including the Professional Practice Institute and the Task Force on Professional Interest Groups.
Additionally, ASLA elected three vice presidents who will serve two-year terms.
Karen Hanna, current landscape architecture and environmental planning department head at Utah State University, was named vice president of education. She will also become dean of the College of Environmental Design at California State Polytechnic University, Pomonoa.
John Nicolaus was elected vice president of communication. Nicolaus served as the president of the Sierra Chapter of ASLA and as a member of the board of trustees. He currently chairs the Public Relations Advisory Committee and received an ASLA Merit Award in 1999 for the UC Davis Medical Center Urban Wildlife Preserve.
Amy Schneckenburger was re-elected as vice president of public affairs. She is deputy chief of project management at Yosemite National Park and previously worked as a landscape architect for National Capital Parks in Washington, D.C. Schneckenburger was an ASLA Congressional Fellow in 1992.
