If you’re planning on entering this year’s American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) Professional and Student Awards, now is the time to send in your forms. ALSA’s electronic publication LAND Online notes that the 2005 call for entries for the ASLA Awards is quickly coming to a close. With a deadline of Friday, May 13, there are only nine days left to enter. This year, ASLA is featuring five categories of professional and student awards:
- General Design
- Residential Design, a new category in partnership with Garden Design magazine
- Analysis and Planning
- Research
- Communications
The call for entries also includes the Community Service Award, recognizing landscape architects and landscape architecture students providing pro bono service to the community, and the Landmark Award, recognizing a project completed between 15 and 50 years ago, in partnership with the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
The student awards have also been updated to mirror the professional categories and entry requirements. “We expect these changes to lead to an increase in the number and overall quality of student entries, while at the same time giving the students a frame of reference for the day when they want to enter the ASLA Awards Program,” said Rodney Swink, committee chair. Students may also enter the student collaboration category for projects created by a team including non-landscape architecture students.
The deadline for receipt of entry forms is Friday, May 13 and submission materials must be received by Friday, May 27. Professional and student award recipients, their clients, and faculty advisors will be honored in a ceremony followed by a luncheon at the ASLA Annual Meeting and EXPO on Monday, Oct. 10 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
