BASF Turf & Ornamentals Appoints Communications Manager

Thomas Hill will fill the post.

BASF Professional Turf and Ornamentals appointed Thomas Hill as communications manager for the Professional Turf & Ornamentals business. In his new position, Hill will manage all communications, including advertising and public relations.

Prior to BASF, Hill served as an account supervisor for Manning Selvage & Lee, one of the world’s leading global PR firms.  Reporting to the Detroit office, Hill worked on behalf of General Motors in a dedicated full time on-site position, and was responsible for managing external and internal communications for the automaker’s global purchasing and supply chain function.

“Hill’s experience in strategic planning, media and analyst relations, issues management, and speechwriting makes him a valuable resource for BASF,” said Toni Bucci, Ph.D., BASF T&O business manager.

Hill joins the BASF T&O team as the organization launches several new products in 2007.  These include Siesta™ a new insecticide that helps control imported fire ants, and Trinity, a new fungicide from BASF.

Previously, Hill served as the public relations manager for Covisint, a global automotive B2B exchange that was a joint venture between DaimlerChrysler, Ford, General Motors, Nissan, Renault and PSA Peugeot-Citroen. Prior to that, he served as director of public relations for The Berline Group, a full service agency based in metro Detroit.  His other PR agency experience includes staff positions at Chicago-based Corporate Technology Communications, and high tech PR boutique Tech Image, Ltd.  His career in communications also included 10 years in radio broadcasting.

Hill earned a bachelor’s degree in communications from Western Michigan University. He is a member of the Public Relations Society of America, as well as a receipient of the Addy Award and Michigan Associations of Broadcasters (MAB) Award.
