AMES, Iowa - Specialty colorant manufacturer Becker Underwood Inc. announced the addition of mulch colorants to its line of products through the acquisition of Wood’n Colors, Elkhart, Ind. The acquisition marks Becker Underwood’s second colorant acquisition in four months following its purchase of turf colorant products from Green Graphics in April 2001 (see Becker Underwood Acquires Green Graphics).
Wood’n Colors, a manufacturer of mulch colorants and equipment, produced a competitive product to Becker Underwood’s Mulch Magic Premium colorants.
"We have had an aggressive growth strategy in the mulch colorant industry," said Roger Underwood, president of Ames, Iowa-based Becker Underwood. "We’ve been the leader in the wood and mulch colorant business for a number of years. The acquisition of Wood’n Colors solidifies this position."
Underwood said the addition of Wood’n Colors will likely help Becker Underwood increase and enhance its research and development programs in the colorant market segment. "It will help create additional synergies to improve many of the products we market," he said.
Underwood also noted the transition should be seamless for Wood’n Colors’ customers, many of which have already transitioned to receiving colorant from Becker Underwood.
Becker Underwood manufactures and markets a variety of specialty colorants and bio-agronomic products for turf management, agriculture, seed treatment, wood recycling, aquaculture, vegetation management, forestry and structural pest control industries.
