BlueYellow Acquired by Koch Cellulose

The new turf establishment system is part of a purchase deal struck with Georgia-Pacific.

BRUNSWICK, Ga. – Koch Cellulose will now manufacture and market BlueYellow™, the new turf establishment system, which combines high quality seed and fertilizer in a lightweight, biodegradable roll. Koch Cellulose acquired BlueYellow as part of a purchase deal struck with Georgia-Pacific, which was finalized in May.

“We are very excited about becoming part of the Koch Industries family of businesses,” says Marsha Seekins, vice president of sales and marketing for Koch Cellulose. “The management team sees great potential for BlueYellow in the green industry. This innovative product creates value for turf professionals and consumers, and creates a new value-added use for our core product. The Koch Cellulose organization will allow us to more effectively support the launch of BlueYellow into the golf and turf, professional landscape, consumer, and industrial markets. We will be able to respond more quickly to the needs of the marketplace.”

BlueYellow gives both turf management professionals and residential customers a simple, one-step solution for establishing new turf. It is a 100-percent biodegradable roll containing a precisely calibrated distribution of high quality grass seed and fertilizer. It rolls out quickly and easily over prepared soil and provides early and uniform turf establishment without seed migration or contamination of adjacent turf and ornamental areas. BlueYellow also suppresses weed growth, is excellent for use on sloped areas, and can be custom ordered with special seed blends and fertilizers for successful turf establishment in a variety of regions and growing situations. It can extend the planting window and provides useable turf faster. BlueYellow also reduces soil erosion, water usage, over fertilizing and fertilizer run-off.

Georgia-Pacific agreed to the sale of its fluff and market pulp business to Koch Cellulose. The purchase included two pulp mills, a short line railroad, and the assets of two international sales offices, as well as BlueYellow. Koch Cellulose is owned by Koch Industries of Wichita, Kan., one of the largest privately held companies in the world.
