Christmas got a bit brighter for dozens of area individuals and families in need today during Borst Landscape and Design’s second annual Christmas tree donation event. Borst teamed up with four area charities to provide their clients approximately 75 freshly cut evergreens just in time for the holiday.

Borst Landscape & Design worked with several local charitable organizations spearheading a collection effort that resulted in approximately 75 Christmas trees being donated to families in the area. “The Christmas tree has been the center of the Christmas celebration throughout the world for nearly 500 years,” said Mark Borst, president of Borst Landscape and Design. “Evergreens have long been symbols of cheer and hope, and we couldn’t be more pleased to enable these families to enjoy them in their homes this holiday season.”
Borst worked with the following organizations and agencies to identify recipients for the complimentary trees:
- Oasis (www.oasis-ahavenforwomenandchildren.org), based in Paterson, is dedicated to providing food and clothing to women and their young children, and offering educational and other opportunities to help women compete in today's marketplace.
- Saint Paul’s Community Development Corporation (www.stpaulscdcnj.org), based in Paterson, is a secular, not-for-profit organization that aims to alleviate the conditions of hunger, homelessness, unemployment, poverty and illiteracy in the City.
- Salvation Army (www.salvationarmyusa.org/usn/www_usn.nsf), the 128-year-old international social services organization, helps more than 30 million people each year in some form through its diverse services.
- St. Peter's Haven for Families (www.stpetershaven.dioceseofnewark.org), a ministry of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Clifton, serves the needs of families displaced because of fire, flood, abuse or financial hardship.
All the evergreen trees for this charitable effort were generously donated by the following Bergen County nurseries: Hedgewick Gardens, Weeping Pine Nursery, What’s Blooming, Rhoslers Nursery, Shemin Nurseries and Victoria’s Nurseries.
The outreach project also includes hand-made ornaments provided by residents at The Atrium, an independent living residence that is part of The Allendale Community for Mature Living in Allendale. In addition, Kushner Companies donated the parking lot of its 16-00 Route 208 office building to serve as the central pick-up site.
