Professional football and landscaping don’t have much in common, but that didn’t stop hundreds from attending last Thursday’s PLANET GIE+Expo keynote session with Super Bowl-winning head coach Brian Billick.
Following informative speeches from PLANET president Jason Cupp, PLANET AEF VP Gilbert Pena and API Chief Economist John Felmy, Billick took the stage at Louisville’s Marriott Hotel, energizing a PLANET crowd with inspirational personal stories of failures and successes.
Prior to Billick’s keynote address, Felmy treated members to an overview of America’s current energy situation, explaining key factors that affect the future energy marketplace.
Former Baltimore Ravens head coach and Super Bowl XXXV champion Brian Billick shares motivational stories from NFL locker rooms. While Billick admitted he doesn't know much about the green industry, PLANET's keynote speaker was able to give members new ideas for running their own successful business teams.
John Felmy, American Petroleum Institute chief economist, talks about the future of new energy in the U.S. and the need to become energy independent. He also touched on misconceptions about the petroleum industry, saying everyday people are the ones who own big oil (albeit indirectly with individual retirement accounts and mutual funds.)
Gilbert Pena, the new vice president of PLANET Academic Excellence Foundation, encourages the green industry to contribute funds for horticulture and landscaping program scholarships at local colleges and universities.
