Responding to the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, Scott Brickman, president and CEO of The Brickman Group, recently challenged his team to raise half a million dollars for hurricane relief.

“I just can’t imagine having everything in your world destroyed in an instant,” reflects Brickman.  “What’s made this country great is neighbors helping neighbors. So I consider it our responsibility as citizens to do what we can to help.”

What the entire Brickman family has done is to make personal contributions totaling $250,000 to the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. They also have invited Brickman employees to make their contributions through the company’s Katrina Relief Fund, with the company matching those contributions two for one ($2 for every $1 contributed by employees).

The Katrina Relief Fund will continue to accept donations from Brickman employees through the month of September. When all is said and done, Brickman expects to raise close to half a million dollars for the Red Cross.

The Katrina Relief Fund is the latest in a series of charitable and community service projects by Brickman employees that often involve contributing time to causes such as Habitat for Humanity, the Ronald McDonald House, homeless shelters and many other service organizations.

“The Brickman family has a long standing tradition of service, and that tradition carries through the company’s culture,” Brickman says. “We are proud of our team members who have always given back to the communities where they live and work with charitable contributions of both time and money.”

Brickman regional offices are also collecting donations of items requested by the Red Cross. At the end of this month, Scott Brickman and his wife Patrice will drive a truck full of goods from the company’s headquarters in Gaithersburg, Md., to Gulfport, Miss. There, they will hand the donations off to a U.S. Navy chaplain they know through their church, who is overseeing five shelters in the area.

Enhancing the American landscape since 1939, Brickman serves commercial clients in 23 states, featuring award-winning maintenance, landscape architecture and construction services.  For more information contact www.brickmangroup.com
