Brickman Expands with Acquisition in South Carolina

The deal was the third acquisition for $500 million company this year.

Following two acquisitions earlier this year in the Northeast and Northwest, the Brickman Group recently expanded its operations in the South with the acquisition of LandCare South of Hilton Head, S.C. Financial terms were not disclosed for the transaction, which was complete in July.

LandCare South’s former President/owner Marianne Welliver and her management team will join Brickman and operate the location as the Hilton Head branch of the Gaithersburg, Md.-based $500-million company.

LandCare South, a full-service operation, was formerly the Hilton Head branch for TruGreen LandCare, for which Welliver was the general manager. When TruGreen looked to pull out of the area five years ago, Welliver sought financing and bought the company, according to an April 2002 report in the Savannah (Ga.) Morning News.

The branch will operate under the name LandCare South A Division of Brickman until 2008. At that time it will assume the Brickman name.

“Brickman had some satellite operations for a client in the Hilton Head area, which is why this acquisition made sense to us,” says Margie Holly, communications manager for Brickman. “It just gives us a firmer base of operations in that area.”

An informational sheet on the deal provided by Brickman indicates the company may seek growth in this region, saying, “... Brickman prepares to expand operations throughout the LowCountry and Coastal Georgia.”
