Briggs & Stratton and diversified manufacturer Leggett & Platt have reached an agreement for Leggett to supply aluminum die castings for Briggs' assembly plant in Auburn, Ala.
The agreement calls for Carthage, Mo.-based Leggett to build a 140,000-square-foot die-casting plant in Auburn near Briggs' current facility.
Construction of the new plant should begin during the fourth quarter of 2004, with production expected to begin in late 2005.
"This is truly a win-win project,” says James E. Brenn, senior vice president & chief financial officer, Briggs & Stratton, Milwaukee. “Briggs should see higher EVA and lower capital requirements, since Leggett will fund the project. At the same time, we benefit from Leggett's technical expertise while ensuring a sufficient supply of die cast components to meet our needs."
