Esch Landscaping is poised to grow, except there’s one big hurdle the company faces – and it’s a perennial issue in the landscaping industry. That’s finding good people.
“We could experience even more growth, but the biggest challenge is having team members on board who are trained to do what we need them to do,” says Matt Esch, president of the Pigeon, Mich.-based firm.
Esch is focused on reviewing the company’s organizational chart. “We’re seeing what openings we have and making sure our job descriptions are valid,” he says. He’s also assembling a recruiting calendar that will detail which positions to fill, and when.
An important tool in the company’s recruiting arsenal this year is a video that illustrates a day in the life working at Esch Landscaping. The video will be posted on the company website and social media outlets. “It’s a walk-through of us in the office and some of our key team members,” Esch describes, relating that the target employee is likely already working for another firm. “They are looking to better themselves or they are looking for change.”
Showing them what a career at Esch Landscaping looks like could draw talent, Esch hopes. “We have an atmosphere of encouraging growth and personal development,” he says.
