Knowing what’s on potential customers’ minds before you meet them at their doorsteps is a great sales advantage for Buhler Landscape & Design in Ogden, Utah. An online questionnaire found on the firm’s website sets the stage for that first conversation.
The questionnaire asks for the basics like name, contact information, and “How did you hear about us?” But it also requires a person to click which services he or she is interested in: master plan/design, hardscape, sprinkler system, landscape elements, landscape beds or lawn improvement.
Mallory Buhler came up with the questionnaire as a way to continue improving communication with clients. “We want to be on the same page with our customers,” says Landon Buhler, president. “So we asked ourselves, ‘How can we communicate better right off the bat?’ so people will say, ‘This landscaper really knows what I want.’”
An online questionnaire was the answer.
“You may go out to quote a job and think you are giving an estimate for landscaping the whole yard when the customer only wants a sprinkler system,” Buhler says. “This lets us know what to focus on when we meet the client.”
Ninety percent of customers who contact Buhler Landscape & Design submit that questionnaire. All online referrals fill out the form and people who call in are asked if they will fill it out, too. “We are always trying to find new ways to communicate better,” Buhler says, adding, “We’ll change things up if we need to.” The questionnaire is online, so it’s easy to edit if necessary.
