Planning for pools

Designing around a pool can pose some problems when the landscape is an after-thought. That’s what Moscarino Outdoor Creations was running in to when the firm was called on to jobs where the pool portion of the project was already a done deal.   

“We would say, ‘Why didn’t you call us before? You could have used your own pool contractor and we could have worked together,’” says Chas Moscarino, president, Moscarino Outdoor Creations.

So this year, Moscarino developed partnerships with several pool contractors in the area and wrote an informational article for a local publication on the importance of having a full plan for the poolscape – treating the project as one in phases rather than separate jobs.
    
“A lot of pool contractors aren’t designers – they can design a pool, but they can’t design the landscape and the hard surfaces and outdoor living spaces,” Moscarino says.
    
Now, Moscarino suggests qualified pool contractors to clients and brings these professionals to the design table. The client decides which contractor will get the job. “But at least we’ll have a plan to work with,” Moscarino says.
