When a piece of equipment needs to be repaired, a crewmember fills out a repair order and turns it into his manager, so he’s aware of the problem. The managers then submit the forms to the manager of the fleet department. He enters the orders into a repair-tracking log (created in Excel). Once orders have been entered here, they’re in the mechanic’s hands. When he finishes a repair, he changes the status from “open” to “closed” and highlights it in yellow. In addition, he logs hours or miles in the notes column if applicable, which is helpful when repairing the equipment in the future.
