Two universities have been awarded Initial Accreditation status by the Associated Landscape Contractors of America (ALCA).
The landscape horticulture program at Brigham Young University-Idaho, Rexburg, Idaho, and the landscape management program at Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah, recently earned accreditation.
Accreditation is a way of identifying the two- and four-year college and university degree programs that meet the provisions of model curriculum developed to turn out graduates qualified to be successful as landscape contractors.
William Thornton, Thornton and Associates, Lebanon, Ohio, coordinator, led a team of educators and contractors to BYU-Idaho in September 2003 to meet with administrators, faculty, students and alumni, tour the campus and review course work. Another team traveled to Provo, Utah, in December for the same process.
Both BYU teams bring strong teams to the annual ALCA Student Career Days event. The Provo-based team won the overall competition in 2003, and the Rexburg-based group claimed the trophy in this year’s competitive events.
