More than two dozen workers, including six from the San Gabriel Valley, Calif., and Whittier, Calif., were arrested this week in an undercover sting targeting unlicensed contractors.
The Contractors State License Board arrested the men in the Atwater Village area of Los Angeles after they allegedly arrived to make bids on a variety of home improvement projects. The board put out solicitations for work such as landscaping, painting, flooring, fencing, new windows, new doors and a bathroom remodel.
Many of the workers arrested had been targeted by the board due to consumer complaints, online or print advertisements and tips from the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors association.
State law requires a license for anyone who performs home improvement jobs valued at $500 or more.
