The Canadian Nursery Landscape Association announced the winners of the organization’s second annual National Awards of Landscape Excellence. The awards ceremony took place on Feb. 4, 2005 at the Banff Park Lodge in Banff, Alberta.

As a federation of landscape associations in Canada, the Canadian Nursery & Landscape Association represents nine provincial horticulture associations throughout the country. For the National Awards of Landscape Excellence, entrants must have won a provincial Award of Excellence for their selected project in order to participate at the national level.
This year’s competition featured 25 entrants from British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, Quebec and Nova Scotia. Ten individuals representing the education, media and professional contractor aspects of the green industry served as judges for the awards. Judges included:
Jeff McMann, Corporation of the Town of Markham (Ontario); Don Chase, Sheridan College; Brian Minter, Minter Country Garden; Claude Ledoux, New Westminster Parks Department; Claire Belisle, Quebec Vert magazine; Sylvie Seguine, Garden Daniel A. Seguin; Tim Amos, Nova Scotia Community College, Kingstec Capus; Joe Biderman, Joe Biderman Landscaping Design; Adele Goodwin, Earthworm Landscape Design Co.; and Julie Todorova, Earthworm Landscape Design Co.

Sponsored by Caterpillar and John Deere, the National Awards of Landscape Excellence featured two main categories for competition: the Caterpillar of Canada Award of Excellence for Landscape Construction/Installation and the John Deere Limited Award of Excellence for Landscape Maintenance.
The winner of the Caterpillar of Canada Award of Excellence for Landscape Construction/Installation is Countryside Garden Centre & Landscaping, Dewington, Alberta. Taking home the John Deere Award of Excellence for Landscape Maintenance is T. Moscone & Brothers Grounds Maintenance, Vancouver, British Columbua. The Canadian Nursery Landscape Association thanks all of the entrants for raising the bar of professionalism within the horticultural industry.
